inkitabstracts began with a simple love of pen and paper.

Every piece starts the same way – a fine liner, an instinctive first line, and then I just see where it goes. Shapes build, detail creeps in, and slowly something starts to take form. There’s no plan, which is kind of the point.

A lot of ideas come to me in quiet moments. At home, out walking, the odd scribble at work or while travelling. Each piece develops in its own time and I never really rush it – which is probably why no two ever turn out quite the same.

The work is genuinely original. Calm and expressive, but always its own thing.

Hi, I’m Martin.

For most of my life, creativity sat quietly in the background while I focused on other adventures. I served as a medic in the Royal Air Force for 22 years, worked in healthcare, explored the countryside, gardened, travelled, and raised a family. Throughout it all, I’ve always been drawn to creating things with my hands.

That healthcare background wasn’t just a uniform. Later in my RAF career I trained medics from the Army, Navy and RAF in pre-hospital trauma care, and after leaving in 2003 I moved into healthcare training more broadly, later completing a diploma in stress management that I used to help companies build stress policies and give their teams practical techniques. So when people tell us colouring and drawing helps them switch off, that’s not just something we hope is true — it’s something I spent years teaching people how to do, just with different tools.

inkitabstracts began from a simple love of putting pen to paper and seeing where the ink would lead. What started as a hobby soon became a growing collection of unique abstract artworks, each created by hand using ink, imagination, and a willingness to let creativity take its own path.

I never set out to create perfect art. Instead, I create pieces that are organic, expressive, and open to interpretation. Some people see faces, landscapes, animals, or patterns hidden within the lines. Others simply enjoy the shapes, movement, and energy of the artwork. There is no right or wrong way to view it. Honestly, I’m often surprised by what people find in them – and I love that!

Every piece begins as an original hand-drawn artwork. From those originals, I create high-quality prints, digital products, colouring pages, and other creative projects. I just think art should be something people can have in their lives and enjoy – not something that feels out of reach.

When I’m not creating artwork, you’ll usually find me walking in the Derbyshire countryside with my dogs, working in the garden, learning new skills, or planning my next adventure with my wife, Sara, who trained as an occupational therapist and plays a huge role in bringing inkitabstracts to life. Her background is built on the idea that doing something purposeful with your hands is genuinely good for you — which is probably why the wellbeing side of what we make matters to us both.

Thank you for visiting and supporting our creative journey. Whether you’re here to browse, purchase a piece, download a colouring page, commission a custom piece, or simply enjoy the artwork, I hope you find something that sparks your imagination.
