a note on creative freedom
every commission is guided by you but drawn by martin. you share the feeling — the moods, shapes and subjects that draw you in — and his hand does the rest, with the same freedom that shapes everything he makes.
what martin can't do is work from a specific design, brief or reference — no replicas, no likenesses, no drawing to a template. that's what keeps each commission an original.
your commission, your way
your commission is professionally printed and presented how you want it — print only, framed, or on canvas. most sizes are available (we'll confirm exact options with your quote, as they depend on supply), and framing isn't limited to our standard range: tell us what you have in mind and we'll find it.
the original ink drawing itself stays in the studio. if owning one of martin's originals is what you're after, that's a separate enquiry, priced individually — just mention it in the form below.
the honest bits
pricing & payment
each commission is priced individually by size and presentation, and confirmed with your quote before you commit. a 50% deposit secures your slot; the balance is due once you've approved the finished drawing, before it goes to print.
approval before printing
when the drawing is finished you'll receive a photo. if you love it, the balance is payable and it's sent to print in your chosen size and finish. if it isn't for you, you may step away — the deposit is retained for the time and materials, no balance is due, and the drawing remains with martin.
changing your mind
if you cancel before martin begins, your deposit is refunded in full. because each commission is made to order, the usual 14-day change-of-mind cancellation for online purchases doesn't apply once work has started.
rights & reproduction
your commission is supplied as a print of the drawing created for you; the original artwork and its copyright remain with the artist, as is standard under uk law. your print is for personal display and enjoyment — the drawing may not be reproduced, resold as prints, or used commercially. we may photograph and share the piece in our portfolio and on social media. additional prints for you are available on request.
exclusivity — your choice
every commission is quoted one of two ways. if you'd like the design to remain exclusively yours — never reprinted for anyone else, never joining the collection — the price reflects that. if you're happy for the design to join the collection later, your commission costs considerably less. we'll agree this with you before work begins, and it's confirmed in writing with your quote.
timing & delivery
every drawing takes the time it needs — we'll give you an honest timeframe with your quote. tracked shipping is charged separately and confirmed alongside your quote.
quick questions
can i ask for a specific design?
no — and that's the point. you guide the feeling with your general likes, shapes and moods, and martin draws with full creative freedom. he can't work from references, templates or requests for particular designs.
will i own the copyright?
your commission is supplied as a print made just for you, and the copyright remains with the artist — the same as buying any artwork in the uk. it's yours to display and enjoy, not to reproduce or use commercially.
what sizes and finishes can i choose?
most sizes are available, and you choose how it's presented — print only, framed or canvas, with framing not limited to our standard range. exact options depend on supply at the time, so we'll confirm what's possible with your quote.
can i order more prints of my commission later?
yes — additional prints of your commission are available on request. just get in touch and we'll quote for the size and finish you'd like.
will my commission stay exclusive to me?
that's your choice, and we're upfront about the trade: if the design remains exclusively yours — never reprinted for anyone else, never joining the collection — the price reflects that. if you're happy for the design to join the collection later, your commission costs considerably less. we'll talk both options through with your quote.
can i buy one of martin's original drawings?
yes — but originals are a separate enquiry, made in their own specific sizes and priced individually. mention it in the form below and we'll take it from there.
what if the finished drawing isn't for me?
you'll always see a photo before paying the balance. if it isn't right for you, you part with only the deposit and owe nothing more — the drawing stays with martin.
